💸 Split the Bill

Assign what each person actually ordered, add tax and tip, and get exactly what everyone owes — split fair, not just even.

1

Who's splitting this?

Add everyone at the table — you'll assign items to them next.

2

What's on the bill?

Add each item, its price, and who's sharing it — defaults to everyone, uncheck who didn't have it.

Add at least one person above to start adding items.
3

Tax & tip

Both optional, and split proportionally by what each person ordered.

4

Here's the split

Each person's share of the items they had, plus their portion of tax and tip.

Add people and at least one item to see the split.
💸 Free Bill & Group Expense Split Calculator

Splitting a group cost evenly is easy — and often unfair to whoever ordered a water and split fries, or booked the cheaper room. This calculator does it properly: assign each item to whoever actually owes it (or to a few people if it was shared), add tax and tip, and everyone's exact share comes out the other side, ready to paste into the group chat. Works for a restaurant bill, a trip's hotel and rideshare costs, shared rent and utilities, or a party/event's expenses — anything with a list of costs and a group of people splitting them unevenly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this split the bill evenly, or by what each person actually had?

By item — assign each item to whoever ordered it (or to several people if it was shared), and only those people split its cost. Nothing forces an even split unless everyone shares everything.

How is tax and tip divided?

Proportionally, based on each person's share of the pre-tax subtotal — someone who ordered more pays a proportionally larger share of the tax and tip, the same way an itemized restaurant bill would work it out.

Is anything about the bill saved or sent anywhere?

No — the whole calculation runs in your browser and disappears when you close the tab. Nothing is uploaded or stored.

Can I send the result straight to a group chat?

Yes — the results step has a one-tap "Copy Summary" button that formats each person's total as plain text, ready to paste into WhatsApp, iMessage, or Venmo.

Can I use this for a trip, shared rent, or an event — not just a restaurant bill?

Yes — "items" can be anything with a cost and a set of people covering it: a hotel room, a rideshare, groceries for a shared house, or decorations and tickets for a party. Add each one, assign who's paying for it, and the tax/tip fields are optional if they don't apply.
